[English]

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship between social media addiction and body image with mediating role of body shame and self-compassion. The present research is the correlation. The statistical population was all the students of Kashan universities in the academic year 2023-2024. The sample size was selected based on the model of Kline (2023) and with the available sampling method of 320 people. Data collection tools included the social networking addiction scale (SNAS) of Griffiths (2005), body image concern inventory (BICI) of Littleton and et al (2005), self- compassion scale (SCS) Neff (2003) and body image as a source of shame (BISS) of Duarte and et al (2014). Data analysis was done with Pearson's correlation coefficient and structural equation modeling. The data analysis software was AMOS version 28. The results showed that social media addiction (p<0.05, β =.33) has a significant direct effect on body image. Finally, internalized body shame (p<0.05, β =.72), externalized body shame (p<0.05, β =.32) and self-compassion (p<0.05, β = -.31) has a significant direct effect on body image and was able significant mediating role in the relationship between social media addiction and body image. Also, proposed model had an acceptable fitness to the data (RMSEA=0/032 p<0/05) and analyses also revealed that %97 of variance of body image was explained. It can be concluded that due to the significant mediating role of body image shame and self-compassion, it is possible to prevent concern about body image in students by using effective interventions such as management training on the use of social media, training based on self-compassion with the aim of reducing body image.
