[English]

The present study aimed to investigate the structural relationships between the five dark personality traits and death anxiety, with the mediating role of negative meta-emotion among bereaved university students. This descriptive-correlational research employed a structural equation modeling (SEM) approach. The statistical population included all university students in Tabriz during the 2024–2025 academic year, among whom 265 individuals (125 males and 140 females) were selected through convenience sampling. The research instruments consisted of the Death Anxiety Scale (Templer, 1970), the Five Dark Personality Traits Questionnaire (Yousefi et al., 2021), and the Meta-Emotion Scale (Mitmansgruber, 2009). Data were analyzed using SPSS-26 and SmartPLS-4.1.1.1 software. The results indicated that the overall goodness-of-fit index of the model was satisfactory (GOF = 0.346), suggesting an adequate fit between the conceptual model and the empirical data. The direct path from the five dark personality traits to death anxiety was positive and significant (p < 0.001). Similarly, the direct paths from the five dark personality traits to negative meta-emotion and from negative meta-emotion to death anxiety were also positive and significant (p < 0.001). Furthermore, the indirect path from the five dark personality traits to death anxiety through negative meta-emotion was significant (p < 0.001). Accordingly, negative meta-emotion plays an important mediating role in the relationship between dark personality traits and death anxiety. Therefore, considering this construct can be useful in designing psychological interventions aimed at reducing death anxiety among individuals with dark personality characteristics.
