Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the effect of Intrinsic-extrinsic religion on mental health in kashan.
Method:The subject consisted of 1032 male and female in the city of kashan that were selected using stratified randomized sampling method. Data were gathered using General Health Questionnaire (GHQ) and Extrinsic and Intrinsic religion scale.
Results:Data showed a significant relationship between Intrinsic religion and mental health but there was not significant relationship between extrinsic religion and mental health. No significant difference was seen between male and female with regard to religious attitude. All subscale of GHQ were significant negative relationship with Intrinsic religion but extrinsic religion has positive relationship with depression.
Conclusion: The results support that Intrinsic religion is effective in the mental health .
