Effectiveness of Gestalt Therapy and Cognitive-behavioral Therapy on the Improvement of Migraine Headache in Female Students

Abstract

The purpose of the current study was to assess the effectiveness of Gestalt therapy and Cognitive–behavior therapy on Migraine. In a semi-experimental study with pretest, posttest and follow up group, 21 college female students with Migraine were randomly placed in either a control or experimental groups. Cognitive behavior groups participated in CBT sessions and Gestalt therapy groups participated in Gestalt therapy sessions for 8 sessions of 1 hour. But, the control group did not receive any treatment. All participants (3 groups) completed the Migraine test before, after intervention and 4 weeks later. Data were analyzed by ANOVA and repeated measures analysis. The experimental group demonstrated a significant decreased the level of Migraine headache. Furthermore, there wasn't significant difference between two experimental groups, in terms of the level of Migraine headache. Gestalt therapy and Cognitiver- behavior therapy were effective for treatment of Migraine headache.
