Aim of this study was to investigate association of achievement goal orientation and shyness with avoidance help of seeking. Participants were 101 female students in grade 9 in Yasuj. They were selected by random sampling method. They completed Elliot and Mcgregor’ achievement goal orientation questionnaire, Ryan and Pintrich’ help seeking behavior questionnaire and Stanford shyness questionnaire. Data was analyzed by the multiple regressions. Results showed that the avoidance of help seeking was predicted by shyness and avoidance performance orientation significantly. Findings reveal of the implied important role of motivational-social variables (achievement goal orientation) and personality (shyness) in explaining academic avoidance help seeking behavior. Theoretical implications are discussed in detail.
