Abstract

The present investigation aimed at examining the relationship between coping strategies and happiness among university students. For this reason, 384 students were selected randomly, then responded to Lazarus-Folkman coping strategies checklist and Memorial University of Newfoundland Scale of Happiness (MUNSH). Findings revealed positive, significant relationship (p<0.01) between happiness and problem-focused coping strategies and negative, significant relationship (p<0.01) between happiness and emotion-focused coping strategies. Also, regression analysis revealed that in regard to sub-scales of these two coping strategies, escape-avoidance (ß=-0.43, p<001), positive reappraisal (ß=0.33, p<001), planful problem solving (ß=0.12, p<05), self control (ß=-0.11, p<05) and accepting responsibility (ß=0.10, p<05) predict happiness significantly.
