Abstract

The aim of the present research was to study validity and reliability of the behavioral inhibition system (BIS) and behavioral activation system (BAS) scale.  To this purpose, two sample 326 students (for validity study) and 30 students (for reliability study) took part in the research from different department of Tabriz University. Test-retest reliability BIS/BAS scale measured by Pearson correlation coefficient between twice test in 2-weeks interval BIS/BAS scale in 30 students. This results for BIS scale was 0.78, for subscales of BAS namely reward responsiveness was 0.82, drive 0.75, and fun seeking 0.86. For Internal consistency of BIS/BAS scale used Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient. The Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient for BIS scale was 0.62, for subscales of BAS reward responsiveness, drive, and fun seeking were 0.68, 0.74 and 0.65 respectively. The concurrent validity of BIS/BAS scale shown that significant positive correlation between BIS scale and BDI, Neuroticism, STAIT, and negative affect. Also, the results shown that significant positive correlation between BAS scale and Positive affect and Extraversion. In sum, the results of this study shown that the BIS/BAS scale could be used in psychological research and clinical assessment in Iran.
