The Effect of Group Schema Therapy on Eating Disorder,s Beliefs and Shame in Girl Adolecents with Anorexia Nervosa in Isfahan

Abstract

Current study investigates the effect of group schema therapy in reducing the eating disorderbeliefs and shame in female adolescents with Anorexia Nervosa. The present study was a semi-experimental study using control group, pre-and post-test & follow- up design. Statistical sample was 40 girl Adolescents with Anorexia Nervosa, who were selected by purposive sampling and diagnostic interviews among whom referred to medical and psychological centers in Isfahan. Participants were randomly assigned into two controls and experimental groups. Then experimental group participated in 12 sessions for Schema therapy. Both groups completed Eating Disorder Beliefs Questionnaire (EDBQ) and Internalized Shame Scale in pre-and post test and follow-up (10 weeks). At the end, results between 2 groups were compared through multivariate analysis of covariance. The results showed that the mean scores of post-test and follow-up in experimental group are significantly lower than of the control group. The findings of this research, confirmed the effect of group Schema therapy in reducing the Eating Disorder beliefs and shame in girls with Anorexia Nervosa, and it can be useful for determining clinical interventions and treatment planning in this healthy problem.
