The present study was aimed to study the effects of internal context and external context on free recall and recognition. To this end, 140 subjects, among Payame Noor University, were screened using the cluster sampling. The subjects were divided into four-35 participant groups. To assess the performance of free recall and recognition, Pair Words Test was used. The results indicated that the context had a significant impact on memory using t-dependent groups, one-way variance and two-way variance. Also the effect of major context is different on free recall and recognition and the internal context are significant on recognition. The effect of context led to better performance of recognition, when compared with recall. Recognition is affected by internal context, while recall results from it.
