Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence, dimentions of locus of control and general health in students of Tabriz University, which was conducted with a correlation method. 381 students of Tabriz University (195 female and 186 male) were included in this study. They were asked to complete the Rotter (1966), locus of control scale general health questionnaire and Petrides and Furnham (2001) emotional intelligence scale. Data were analyzed using regression method. Results showed that there was a positive and significant relationship between internal locus of control and general health, while there was negative relationship between external locus of control and general health. There was a positive and significant relationship between internal locus of control and emotional intellignce, however, no significant relationship was found between external locus of control and emotional intellignce. Also, results demonstrated that among components of emotional intelligence, cognitive skills could significantly predict the changes of general health. Hence, it could be concluded that people with high levels of emotional intelligence as well as those with internal locus of control are in the optimum l evel of general health.
