Abstract

The present study was conducted to compare the effectiveness of psychological capital training and self-regulated learning strategies training on the academic engagement and social competence of high school students victims of bullying. This applied study employed a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design and a two-month follow-up period. The statistical population consisted of high school students who were victims of bullying in Bandar Abbas during the 2023-2024 academic year. In this study, 54 victim of bullying students were selected through purposive sampling and randomly assigned to the experimental and control groups (18 students per group). Students in the experimental groups received Psychological Capital training and Self-Regulated Learning strategies training separately over ten weeks. The Bullying Prevalence Questionnaire (BPQ), Academic Engagement Questionnaire (AES) and Social Competence Questionnaire (SCQ) were utilized in this research. Data were analyzed using mixed-design analysis of variance (Mixed ANOVA) via SPSS23 software. The results indicated that both Psychological Capital training and Self-Regulated Learning strategies training have a significant impact on the academic engagement (F=25.93; Eta=0.50; P<0.001) and social competence (F=29.42; Eta=0.53; P<0.001) of students who are victims of bullying. Furthermore, the results of the post-hoc test revealed a significant difference between the effectiveness of these two educational interventions, indicating that psychological capital training was more effective than self-regulated learning strategies training. Based on these findings, both Psychological Capital training and Self-Regulated Learning strategies training can be utilized to improve the academic engagement and social competence of bullied students.
