Abstract

The aim of the present study was to investigate the structural model of quality of life based on resilience with the mediating role of alexithymia in patients with psoriasis. The present study was descriptive-correlational using structural equation modeling. The statistical population was patients with psoriasis in Tehran city in year 2023. The sample size was selected based on Kline model (2023) and with convenience sampling of 260 patients with psoriasis. Using the quality of Life-BRIEF (WHOQOL-Brief) of world health organization (2004), Connor-Davidson resilience scale (CD-RISC) of Connor and Davidson (2003) and Toronto alexithymia scale (TAS) of Bagby and et al. (1994) data was collected. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 29 and AMOS software. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation and structural equations modeling. The results showed direct effect of resilience on quality of life are significant. The results also showed that alexithymia has a significant mediating role in the relationship between resilience with quality of life. Also, the final research model had a good fit (RMSEA=0.06, SRMR=0.05, p<0.05) and 73% of the variance of quality of life is explained. It can be concluded that the mediating role of emotional alexithymia in the relationship between resilience and quality of life should be considered, and health psychologists should include this component in their therapeutic practice when working with people with psoriasis.
