Abstract

The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the structural relationships between the pathological dimensions of personality and the dimensions of obsessive-compulsive symptoms with the mediation role of experiential avoidance among students of Shahid Madani University of Azerbaijan. The method of this study was a type of correlation studies using the structural equation modeling method. The statistical population included all male and female students of Shahid Madani University of Azerbaijan, from which 203 people were selected by cluster random sampling. In this study, Personality Inventory for DSM-5 (PID-5; Krueger et al., 2012), Obsessive-compulsive Disorder-revised (OCI-R; Foa et al., 1998) and experiential avoidance questionnaire (MEAQ; Gámez et al., 2011) were used. Data were analyzed using SPSS and AMOS software. The results showed that the direct effect of pathological dimensions of personality on dimensions of obsessive-compulsive symptoms (β = 0.84) and the direct effect of pathological dimensions of personality on experiential avoidance was positive and significant (β = 0.26). Also, the direct effect of experiential avoidance on dimensions of obsessive -compulsive symptoms was positive and significant (β = 0.15). The indirect effect of pathological dimensions of personality on dimensions of obsessive-compulsive symptoms was positive and significant (β = 0.80). In this research, examining the pathological dimensions of personality as stable and influencing factors on the dimensions of obsessive-compulsive symptoms, as well as examining the role of other mediating variables, can have various clinical implications for therapists in order to identify the risk factors of this disorder and its treatment-resistant type.
