Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship of mindfulness and self-control with psychological preparedness with mediating role of stress coping styles among Iranian Red Crescent emergency reaction teams. The present research employed a correlational design. The statistical population consisted of Iranian Red crescent emergency reaction teams in autumn of 2024. The sample size was determind based on Kline’s model (2023), and 338 participants were selected using convenience sampling. Data collection tools included the Psychological Preparedness Scale (PPS; McLennan et al., 2020), the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS; Brown and Ryan, 2003), the Brief Self-Control Scale (BSCS; Tangney et al., 2004), and the Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations (CISS; Endler and Parker, 1990). Statistical analysis of data was performed using SPSS version 28 and AMOS software. The results showed that mindfulness and self-control had a significant direct effect on psychological preparedness. Finally, stress coping styles had a significant direct effect on psychological preparedness and played a significant mediating role in the relationship between mindfulness, self-control and psychological preparedness. In addition, the proposed model showed an acceptable fit to the data (RMSEA=0/06, p<0/05) and analyses also revealed that 71% of the variance in psychological preparedness was explained. It can be concluded that, given the significant mediating role of stress coping styles, psychological preparedness in Iranian Red Crescent emergency reaction teams can be enhanced through effective interventions such as stress coping training and mindfulness and self-control training.
