Abstract

The objective of the present study was the structural model of psychological distress based on self-care and psychological resilience with the mediating role of self-compassion in patients with multiple sclerosis. The research is applicative and the research method was correlational through structural equations modeling. The statistical population included multiple sclerosis patients who were members of the Isfahan MS Association in the fall season of 2022. Three hundred and twenty patients with multiple sclerosis were selected from the statistical population as the available sampling. The results showed that Self-care has a significant direct effect on self-compassion (p < 0.05, β = 0.614) and psychological distress (p < 0.05, β = -0.478) of patients with multiple sclerosis and it was able to explain 37.7 and 22.8 percent of the variance of these variables, respectively. Also, psychological resilience has a significant direct effect on self-compassion (β = 0.545, p < 0.05) and psychological distress (β = -0.536, p < 0.05) of patients with multiple sclerosis and was able to explain 29.7 and 28.7 percent of the variance of these variables, respectively. Finally, self-compassion had a significant direct effect on psychological distress (p < 0.05, β =-0.44) of patients with multiple sclerosis and was able to explain 19.3% of the variance of this variable. Meanwhile, self-compassion has a significant mediating role in the relationship between self-care and psychological resilience with psychological distress in multiple sclerosis patients (p<0.05).
