Prediction of paranoid thoughts in two dimensions of reference idea and persecutory delusions in adolescents based on perceived parenting styles and affective family climate relationship

Abstract

Paranoia is an unfounded and threatening belief that others intend to harm a person, which is spread along a continuum in the clinical and non-clinical population. The aim of the present study is to investigate the relationship between perceived parenting styles and affective family climate with paranoid thoughts in two dimensions of reference idea and persecutory delusions in adolescents. The research method is descriptive and correlational. The statistical population is all the students at upper secondary school in Azarshahr city, from which 321 students selected as samples by available sampling. Research questionnaires included: Parental authority questionnaire buri (1991), Affective family climate Hillburn (1964) and Paranoid Thoughts Scale Green et al (2008). Data analysis was using correlation coefficient and regression analysis. The results showed that there is a negative and significant relationship between the affective family climate and paranoid thoughts in the two dimensions of reference idea and persecutory delusions, and between the authoritative parenting style and persecutory delusions. Also, the results of the regression analysis, the predictor variables were able to predict 5% of the changes in reference idea and 8% of the changes in persecutory delusions.
