Model of Predicting Psychological Damages According to Social Support with the Mediation of Emotional Regulation in the Women Hurt By Betrayal

Abstract

The present study was conducted to offer a model of predicting psychological damages according to social support with the mediation of emotional regulation in the women hurt by betrayal. The research method was descriptive-correlational and pathway analysis. The statistical population included the women hurt by betrayal who referred to family consultation centers in zone 6 of Tehran in the spring and summer 2020. The statistical population included 240 women hurt by betrayal who were selected through convenient sampling method. The applied questionnaires included Depression Questionnaire (DQ) (Beck, Epstein, Brown, Steer, 1996), Post-Traumatic Stress Questionnaire (PTSQ) (Weathers, 1993), Social Support Questionnaire (SSQ) (Zimet et al, 1988) and Emotional Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) (Gross and John, 2003). The data analysis was conducted via pathway analysis. The results showed that social support and emotional regulation have significant relationship with depression and post-traumatic stress (p<0.01). Moreover, social support and emotional regulation have significant direct effect on the depression and post-traumatic stress in the women hurt by betrayal (p<0.01). Besides, the Bootstrap results showed that adaptive and maladaptive emotional regulation have significant mediation role in the relationship of social support with depression and posttraumatic stress in the women hurt by betrayal (p<0.01). Finally, the model enjoyed an appropriate goodness of fit. Taking the significant mediation role of emotional regulation it is necessary for the clinical therapists to decrease depression and post-traumatic stress in the women hurt by the betrayal through training emotional regulation.
