The Effectiveness of Reality Therapy on Emotional Inhabitation and Rumination Mothers of Children with Intellectual Disability

Abstract

The purpose of the research was to examine the effectiveness of reality therapy on Emotional Inhabitation and rumination mothers of children with intellectual disability. This semi-experimental study was conducted using pre-test and post-test with control group from all mothers of children with intellectual disability visited in Ardabil rehabilitation and seyed hatami comprehensive health center in the year 2020, 30 mothers were selected through the availability sampling method and randomly were placed into two equal experimental and control groups. Experimental group experienced 8 weeks of reality therapy, while control group were just followed. Emotional Inhabitation Roger and Najarian (1987) questionnaire and rumination Nolen-Hoeksema (1991) questionnaire were used in pre-test, post-test and follow up as the study instrument. Data were analyzed by descriptive indices and analysis of covariance. The result of comparing post-test of scores in two group with using analysis of covariance by controlling the effect variable showed that there were significant difference in Emotional Inhabitation and rumination scores intervention group and the control group. Thus, can be said that of reality therapy reduced worry and rumination scores in mothers of children with intellectual disability.
