Abstract

Some people, despite the natural or almost natural appearance of their body, have a constant preoccupation with their physical appearance. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of emotion regulation training on self-interpretation, emotional creativity and interpersonal emotion regulation in girls with body deformity disorder. This was a quasi-experimental study with pre-test and post-test design with experimental and control groups. The statistical population of the present study consisted of all girls with body deformity disorder in Pooyesh Fahim Clinic in Tehran in 2021, from which 30 people were selected by available sampling method and randomly in two experimental groups (15 people). And the control group (15 people) were replaced. The research instruments were the modified Yale-Brown Scale for Body Deformity Disorder, Hardin et al.'s Self-Interpretation Questionnaire, the April Emotional Creativity Questionnaire, and the Huffman et al. Interpersonal Emotion Regulation Questionnaire. The experimental group received emotion regulation skills based on the Gross model in 8 sessions of 60 minutes. The collected data were analyzed by one-way analysis of covariance. The results showed that emotion regulation training is effective on self-interpretation, emotional creativity and interpersonal emotion regulation in girls with body deformity disorder (P<0.05). Based on the research findings, it can be said that emotion regulation training is effective in reducing independent self-interpretation, increasing emotional creativity and interpersonal emotion regulation in girls with body deformity disorder.
