Abstract
Today, the prevalence of high-risk behaviors among young people has become one of the most important and widespread concerns of human societies. The aim of this study was to determine the role of sensation seeking and moral intelligence on high-risk sexual behaviors mediated by emotion regulation and the use of social networking sites. The current research design was descriptive-correlational and structural equation modeling. The study population consisted of all students of the Islamic Azad University studying in the academic year 2019-2020, from which 404 were selected through available sampling. Participants answered the Iranian adolescents risk-taking scale, saensation seeking Questionnaire, Moral Intelligence Questionnaire, Emotion Regulation Questionnaire and Measuring the Use of Communication Media Questionnaire. The obtained dataset were analyzed by Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results showed that sensation seeking is directly and indirectly related to high-risk sexual behaviors through emotion regulation and the use of social networking sites; The results also showed that moral intelligence is directly and indirectly related to high-risk sexual behaviors through emotion regulation. This study showed that emotion regulation and use of social networking sites can partly explain the relationship between personality traits and high-risk sexual behaviors.
