Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy in depression and life expectancy in patients with liver transplantation. The study design was quasi-experimental with pre-test-post-test research design and control group. The study population included all patients who, according to a medical diagnosis, had undergone liver transplant surgery and had received a liver in the past year. The sample consisted of 30 patients were evaluated according to the criteria of inclusion and exclusion that was purposefully selected and randomly assigned in two groups and control group (15 subjects in each group). Beck Depression Inventory and Life expectancy questionnaire were used for data collection. Data were analyzed by Multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) using SPSS software version 23. Results showed that the patients in the experimental group had significantly lower level of depression. Besides, the level of life expectancy in the experimental group was significantly increased (p < .001). Therefore, it can be concluded that Acceptance and Commitment Therapy has reduced depression and increased life expectancy in liver transplant patients.
