The role of emotional intelligence scales in prediction of cluster B personality disorders

Abstract

Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine the role of emotional intelligence's scales in prediction of cluster B personality disorders. based on aims, This is a Fundamental study and in terms of Methods of data collection is a descriptive-correlational study. The study population included all students who were studying at the university of Tabriz in 1394-95 educational year. . The sample of this study was 150 students of Tabriz University who were selected by cluster sampling. Data were collected using Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory(MCMI-III) and Bar-On's Emotional Quotient inventory(EQ-i). Results of structural model Analysis showed that scales of emotional intelligence can predict and explain variance of Cluster B personality traits in the form of structural relations. There is a significant relation between Antisocial personality disorder and intrapersonal, interpersonal, adaptability and stress management scales(p < 0.05). There is a significant relation between Borderline personality disorder and interpersonal scale(p < 0.05). There is a significant relation between Histrionic personality disorder and adaptability and stress management scales(p < 0.05). There is a significant relation between Narcissistic personality disorder and general mood scale(p < 0.05).
These observed relationships between scales of emotional intelligence and cluster B personality disorders has important clinical implications such as using methods of improving emotional intelligence to prevention and treatment of these cluster of disorders.
