Abstract

The present study has been carried out by examining the relationship between behavioral activator system and behavioral inhibition with dangerous driving behavior by mediation of risk perception in driving and decision making styles among Ahvazian drivers. This research is a descriptive one and is of correlation-causal relationship. The statistical population of this study involves all Ahvaz city drivers in year 2018, out of whom 250 subjects were selected using multi-phase randomized sampling method as this research’s statistical sample. In order to analyze data, a structural equation method using SPSS and AMOS, has been used. Also, so as to collect data, Scott and Bruce’s (1995) decision making styles, Herbert & Goldon’s (2013) risk perception driving, Herbert & Gladon’s (2013) dangerous driving behavior questionnaire and Carver & White’s (1994) behavioral inhibition systems and behavioral activation system (BIS/BAS). The results showed that the direct path of behavioral inhibition system with risk perception in driving and dangerous driving behavior was not significant. Nevertheless, other direct paths had a significant relationship with dangerous driving behavior. Also the results of Bootstrap analysis for indirect hypotheses evaluation showed that risk perception and decision making styles (dependent and immediate) could play the mediating role of behavioral activation system and behavioral inhibition with dangerous driving behavior.
